Dream operation
Dream operation
When talking about the operation of dreams, we should first understand what manifest dreams and stable dreams are respectively. 'Manifest dreams' are the dreams that we actually make, in other words, the parts of the dream that we can accurately repeat after we wake up. 'Hidden dream' is another meaning of the dream that we get on the basis of the analysis of 'manifest dream'. A hidden dream is the fulfillment of the dreamer's desire.
Let's use a concrete example to illustrate. For example, 'Three months ago I had a very good boyfriend who I loved very much, but one day he suddenly told me that he was in love with someone else, and I was very sad. One night, three months later, I had a dream that my boyfriend was dead. I don't know why he died, I just saw him lying there quietly and my heart didn't hurt.' The interpreter explained the dream like this: death here means forgetting, and the girl thinks she has forgotten her boyfriend. Because the day before the girl's dream, she met a very nice man, the girl met him
Love. So the dream seems to imply that a new emotion is about to replace the old one. The concrete description of this dream is the 'manifest dream' mentioned above. The latter dream-interpreters say that the girl's forgetting of her previous boyfriend is the implied meaning of the previous dream, which is what we call 'hidden dream'.
Having separated the concepts of 'hidden dreams' and 'manifest dreams', let's now understand how dreams work. Our sages defined the operation of dreams in this way: the process by which 'hidden dream' becomes 'manifest dream' is called the operation of dreams; Conversely, the process from 'manifest dream' back to 'hidden dream' is the interpretation of dreams. It can be said that the purpose of dream interpretation is to overturn the operation of dreams. Let's take a look at how dreams work.
The operation process of dream from 'hidden dream' to 'manifest dream' includes dream compression, displacement, visualization, symbol and embellishment. Let's talk about each of these dream processes.
The compression process of dream operation is the first process of dream operation. The so-called compression process is that the content of the 'manifest dream' is simpler than that of the 'hidden dream'. In other words, 'manifest dream' is a kind of short script for 'hidden dream'. However, there may be no compressed dreams, but generally speaking, the operation of dreams is always indispensable in the process of compression, and there are
The degree of compression is still large. As to whether the operation of dreams has the opposite effect of compression, or it can be said that the content of 'manifest dreams' is richer than that of 'hidden dreams', this situation is considered absolutely impossible.
Since the process of dream compression is so common, how does it work? It can be boiled down to the following three methods:
Method 1: Complete compression, which is manifested in the complete elimination of a certain implied meaning in the 'manifest dream'. That is, we do not see any image of 'hidden dream' on the surface of 'manifest dream'. The content of our dreams seems to have nothing to do with the desires of our hearts.
Method two, incomplete compression, a fragment of the 'hidden dream' intrudes into the 'manifest dream.' In the 'manifest dream' you can find some traces of 'hidden dream', for such a dream, you may feel that it is a little close to your life, and even you have some understanding of some hidden meaning in the dream.
Method 3: Some 'hidden dream' components with the same nature as 'manifest dream' also appear in the 'manifest dream', but also with the 'manifest dream' mixed into one, inseparable from each other. For example: this is a compressed example of 'several people in one'. This mess
The resultant image looks like A, wears clothes like B, and engages in a profession like C, but you know he is always D.
Let's take an example of how dreams are compressed. Look at a woman's dream: 'I dreamed that one of my favorite nephews had died. He was lying in a coffin, his hands folded, his face reflected in the brightly lit funeral hall, just as my other nephew had died a few years ago.' On the face of it, the dream would not have been one that fulfilled the lady's wishes, for she would never have expected the death of her favorite nephew. In fact, this dream is just a 'disguised' dream to satisfy the desire. Because, in fact, the woman was in love with a man, but they could not be married because of the opposition of the family. She had not seen him for a long time, and had only seen him once when the man had come to mourn the death of one of her nephews. The woman's dream meant, in effect, 'If this nephew dies too, I can see the man I love again.' In this dream, the woman organically combined the dream of her nephew's death with the desire to see the man in a dream. Even if the man she wanted to see did not appear in the dream, it was implied in the death of the woman's first nephew. So it can be said that in this dream it is actually the overlap of two funerals, and it connects the two funerals
That's the man. This is how dreams work. They condense many things of the same essence into a somewhat vague thing. If we want to know the meaning of dreams, then we have to find its core.
However, the process of dream compression sometimes mixes two completely different implicacies in a single 'manifest dream.' Sometimes it may surprise us that there appears to be a satisfactory interpretation of the dream, but it is possible. In fact, the second possible implication is ignored. In addition, the relationship between the various elements of 'manifest dream' and 'hidden dream' is very complex, and various elements are often intertwined, so that an obvious element may represent several implicit elements at the same time, and an implicit element can be transformed into several obvious elements. Therefore, when we interpret a dream, if we want it to be fully presented, we must wait until we have interpreted the whole dream.
It can be seen that when we analyze dreams, if word to word, or symbol to symbol translation, then we are very wrong. The workings of dreams are far more complicated than that.
The second great achievement of dream operation is its displacement function, which is the checking function of the dream, and the displacement function of the dream is often achieved by means of substitution and shift of emphasis:
The alternative way. An implicit desire, that is, what we actually want in our hearts, which does not appear in its true form, sometimes not even a part of itself, but is replaced by something seemingly unrelated to it, in a way that approximates metaphor.
The way the emphasis shifts. That is, the focus of the dream is shifted from one important element to another unimportant element. In this way, the center of gravity of the dream is shifted, so that the dream seems to take on a different form, as if it is detached from the center it is intended to express.
In fact, in our daily conversations, we often use metaphor instead of meaning to communicate. There is an obvious difference between the metaphor in daily communication and the metaphor in dreams, that is, the metaphor used by people when they are awake is easy to be understood by others, and the content replaced by the metaphor at this time has a considerable relationship with the will, which is easier to understand. Thus, we often use the form of metaphor in our everyday witty language, where the content of the association is usually no longer needed, but is replaced by an uncommon superficial association. For example, or take a homophony, or take a pun. This superficial association needs to be understood by everyone, otherwise, if the true meaning of a joke's metaphor is not understood, then what is the joke
Is that funny? However, the metaphor used in dreams has none of these limitations, it may have nothing to do with the intended meaning of the dream, and it is not easy to understand, and even after being explained, it may seem strange, and the content of its explanation may seem far-fetched. It is precisely when the dream cannot be traced back to its original meaning from the metaphor that the inspection function of the dream truly achieves its purpose.
It can be seen that the displacement process of dreams is that the dream places important content on the unnoticed plot of the dream. It's like a shy borrower who first rambles a lot with rich people and then casually mentions borrowing money. In fact, from the psychological way of expression, this shift of the center of gravity is not in line with the truth, and it also adds a lot of complex factors, so things look a little mysterious, sound a little mysterious, and the 'shift' of the dream, it is itself to aggravate the dream of the mystery. In this sense, the 'transposition' of dreams is seen as the second achievement of dream operation.
The third process by which dreams work is the visualization of dreams, and this is the most interesting one. It turns thoughts into visual images to show in people's dreams, that is to say, the visualization of dreams is to transform the psychological content into visual images. For example: a new entry
A college student, one night, he dreamed that he wore medieval clothing into a very dark house, the house is very messy, suddenly several people rushed out to attack him. Then he whipped out a submachine gun and fired at the enemy. After defeating all the enemies, he turned and walked out of the house, lit a cigarette in a leisurely way, then took out a grenade and threw it back, and the house exploded behind him. Then he suddenly realized that he had left his textbook in the house, but the house had been blown into rubble and could not be found. Then he thought, if it doesn't work, it doesn't matter.
In fact, the college student had watched a movie on the day of the dream, and one of the plots was very similar to the plot in the dream. And the student had just entered the school, and he was dissatisfied with many aspects of the school. At that time, the final exam was coming, but he had not done enough preparation. His dream expressed his three emotions, one is that the house represents the school, killing the enemy and blowing up the house in the dream is to relieve the depression in his heart; Two, the book dropped in the bombed house, indicating that he was afraid that he had fallen behind in his lessons and would fail in the exam; Three, the book fell in the house, but on second thought it did not matter, because the student's usual temperament is such that he does not care about anything. So the emotion was carried to the dream.
From this dream, it can be seen that the new college student has converted two of his three emotions into
The picture appeared in his dream, one was fighting back against the enemy and the blown up house, the other was falling books. And the indifferent emotion does not appear in the form of a picture, it is expressed in the way of psychological emotion.
From this we can see that our dream thoughts are not fully expressed in a visual way, which is obvious and not difficult to imagine. We know how difficult it is to draw a political paper in a newspaper and to change the text into a picture. The people and objects in the text are not difficult to represent with pictures, and you can draw them perfectly; But if you were to change all abstract words into pictures, and all the words that indicate the relations of thought, such as relations, connections, etc., into pictures, the difficulty would be conceivable.
Of course, we know that thoughts in dreams cannot be fully expressed in the form of views, but there are still many thoughts in our dreams that appear in their original form in the mind and are expressed as thoughts or knowledge in 'manifest dreams.' Although the transformation of thought into vision in the mind is not the only possible method of the transformation of thought in the work of dreams, it is the main characteristic of the operation of dreams.
The fourth process of dream operation is dream symbolism. Dream symbolism refers to an object in our dreams
The past implies another thing. Why does this happen? And the reason for that is that when we fall asleep,
The 'ID' began its fantasy, but the 'super ego' this 'inspector' is always checking all activities in the brain, so the 'ID' had to disguise the dream into our dreams. The disguised dreams are 'manifest dreams', and the hidden meaning they are meant to express is 'hidden dreams'. So, how does the 'ID' disguise the dream so as to deceive the examination of the 'superego'? This is where the symbolism of the dream comes into play.
In order to camouflage, dreams often adopt some special forms, or can be said to be some deception. If only from the point of view of camouflage, then the compression, displacement and visualization of dream operation can be called the deception used by the ID to deceive the superego. The symbolic significance of dreams is that dreams do not seem to form without such a disguise as symbolism. Let us now give three concrete examples of the symbolic operation of dreams.
Example 1: Dreaming of a bridge is a symbol of fun in interpersonal relationships. We often use the words 'crossing Bridges' and 'tearing them down' to express opportunities and challenges in life. However, what does it cost to cross the bridge? Will the bridge collapse? Cross the bridge into a safe destination, or into the unknown? The answers to these questions may reveal that you have realized life
And how you feel about that transition.
Example 2: Dreaming of a father is a symbol of authority, grace, and love. There are many kinds of father images, and many kinds of feelings can be generated through the image of father. What you know about your own father can have a significant impact on the perceptions of other senior figures you may trust. Authority is our first impression of our father, who knows everything and has seen everything. Fathers are often present in your life in special ways, often in the context of your family. Such dreams may produce the feeling that perhaps everything in the world is up in the air. The presence of the father in the dream also signals warmth, or the absence of these things in comparison with other aspects of the dream. If the father has passed away, his appearance in the dream may be related to unresolved issues.
Example 3: Dreaming of the death of a loved one can be the result of many factors. You may be really worried about his or her health. The death of a loved one may be symbolic rather than your efforts to rid them of reality, as your efforts are often seen as resisting anger towards them. If the loved one is a romantic and not related to you, dreaming of his or her death may signal the end of your relationship with each other.
In all three cases, the bridge represents a change in one's life and one's own view of that change. The father is a symbol of unresolved matters; Death symbolizes anger and the end of the relationship. For example, balloons, sprayers, bats, boilers, kettles, bottles, cars, guns, hats, etc., symbolize men's sexual genitals; The female genitals are bowls, children, the earth, fruit, gardens, flowers, the moon, the ocean, pool plugs, vases, etc.
Through the above, after we understand the course of the operation of dreams, the interest in 'manifest dreams' seems no longer so strong, and the status of 'manifest dreams' seems no longer so important in dream work.
Because people are always interested in things that really mean something to them. Therefore, no matter how gorgeously wrapped up the 'manifest dream' is, or whether it is divided back and forth into a number of disconnected pictures, these are not of much significance to us. Although 'manifest dream' has the value and significance of its existence, we know that the surface of this dream is formed in the disguised role of the dream, and it has no connection with the substance of the dream, which is just like a lady dressed up with jewels on the outside, but you can not be sure whether she really has the aristocratic temperament.
However, despite this, we cannot ignore its existence, because the part of the dream we can directly perceive is only
'Manifest dream' 'manifest dream' sometimes also has its meaning, and may also express the gist of 'hidden dream'.
In short, when we interpret a dream, we must remember that we cannot only interpret the substance of the dream by 'manifest dream' or 'manifest dream'. From the surface of dreams, they seem to be connected with each other, as if inside and outside the same. But for most dreams, the structure is actually the same as the reinforced concrete we use to construct our houses, with various pieces of stone bonded together by cement and steel to form slabs. But the smoothness of the surface does not mean that the interior of the SLATE is also orderly. This interesting function of dream operation is what Freud called the 'embellishment' of dreams. Here 'embellishment' seems to be connected with 'cover up'. The aim of dream 'embellishment' is to combine the direct products of dream work into a coherent whole, just as we need to put together the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle to form a complete picture. Unlike the jigsaw puzzle, when the dream is embellishments, the material is often arranged in a very different order from the meaning of the 'hidden dream', in order to achieve this purpose, the interlacing is everywhere, which is like a child playing a disorderly war game.
As for the operation of dreams, we already know that it is the operation process from 'hidden dream' to 'manifest dream'. Under these circumstances, it is no wonder that we are interested in the workings of dreams. You think about the one that's hiding in our subconscious
Something, in the guise of that incredible dream work, turns into a storylike link with concrete imagery that appears in our dreams. It can be seen that the process of dream operation is very unique. Knowing the working process of dreams, our research on dreams will tend to be more rational and more scientific.
