The characteristics of the subconscious and the original thought

The characteristics of the subconscious mind and the original law of thought

The basic characteristics of the subconscious mind can be summarized as follows:

It is original. Primitiveness is in terms of development. The subconscious mind is the most elementary, the simplest and the most basic factor in the human mental system. It predates consciousness and preconsciousness. Consciousness is a developed and transformed subconscious, but not all subconscious can become conscious, depending on the external environment and the nature of the subconscious itself.

It is impulsive. Due to the original nature of the subconscious mind, the subconscious mind has a strong impulse and activity. The impulse of the subconscious comes from its original nature, it takes the leading position in the psychological sequence of human beings, and first appears in the psychological activities of human beings.

Only the subconscious mind can obtain the energy of instinctive impulses in the human nervous system, and the subconscious mind and consciousness can only be expressed by borrowing the energy of the subconscious mind.

It has the characteristics of non-time. Early childhood experiences and desire impulses appear in adult dreams as visible visual impressions and dream dynamics. This gives rise to the vividness of the visual scene, as if it were a return to childhood, which has persisted for decades. 'Dreams are a fragment of the mental life of childhood that has been banned.' All kinds of activities in the subconscious mind are non-temporal.

It has immorality. Morality refers to the norms of human social behavior and belongs to the social category. Morality involves the motivation, purpose and guiding ideology of behavior. The subconscious mind is the primary germination of human psychology, and its activity has the characteristics of illogic, original and timelessness. These characteristics are related to the immorality, and together constitute the unconscious non-social.

It is non-linguistic. There is no mental capacity for generalization in the subconscious or ID. It is expressed mainly with the aid of perceptual materials, without the involvement of language. For example, in dreams, even if something is abstract, it must be expressed in figurative concrete things. Dreams often express the content of the subconscious by means of 'concentration', 'transfer', 'symbol' and so on. So dreams

Absurd and messy, because dreams are limited by non-verbal expression.

Unconsciousness. Professor Liu Wenying of Nankai University in Tianjin believes that 'the most basic feature of the subconscious mind should be its lack of consciousness.' Its content is mainly composed of three aspects.

First, the subject has no clear self-experience. Not only did he not know what he was thinking and doing, but he did not know that he was thinking and doing it with himself. People's dreams and dream images are generally not very clear. In some dreams, if there is no awakening in the middle, the dreamer will never know. Many people forget after waking up, and it is difficult for the dreamer to tell the whole story. And those fantastical plots, even the dreamer does not know how he thinks and does that. Of course, some dreams and dream images seem clear, but the dreamer does not know that he is dreaming. Taking the dream as the reality and the dream image as the reality, this mental state is also the manifestation of unconsciousness.

Second, the subject cannot control his own psychological activities. Voltaire once said that you have to admit that 'all the ideas you have in your dreams do not occur out of your own hands, and your will has no part in them.' No one in the world can decide for themselves what to dream and what not to dream at night. The scene and characters in the dream are constantly changing, and the dreamer cannot request the situation

How the festival must develop. Sometimes a nightmare comes and the dreamer is at a loss. It is said that some people are able to control their dreams, they have been specially trained in advance, the essence of which is to use the conscious to penetrate the subconscious, and often keep the subject in a critical state of dreaming and waking.

Third, the subject has no clear understanding and evaluation of his own point of view. Since he did not know why they thought and acted as they did, he said that he could not consciously make the necessary adjustments and corrections at any time. Dreams often appear some unreal and bizarre scenes, but the dreamer at that time as the real existence and change, for some irrational ugly phenomena, the dreamer will also express an attitude, but not so clear. And in many cases, there is no distinction between right and wrong, good and evil, and let it go.

The psychoanalyst Freud pointed out that dreams are subconscious activities that follow the 'original laws of thought.' The 'original thinking rule' has two characteristics: First, it is not limited by time and space, and anything can cross the boundary of time and space and have relations; Second, the way of thinking is dominated by emotions and desires, and does not infer from logical causes and consequences. These characteristics explain why dreams are so bizarre, and also point to the direction of dream interpretation: to find the 'emotions and desires' that govern it.

The absurdity of dreams, the evolution of their plots that do not correspond at all to the laws of logic and causality in our conscious lives, is mainly because we show another way of thinking in dreams. Freud called this way of thinking in dreams the 'law of original thinking', and the way of thinking in accordance with logical laws and causality when we are awake and rational is called the 'law of secondary thinking'.

The 'original law of thought' is the earliest way of thinking, and we can still see traces of this way of thinking in the children of the existing primitive peoples or civilized societies.

As children in civilized societies grow up, they develop logical 'secondary thinking rules' to cope with life in the real world. However, in the night dream, the cerebral cortex of the main department of reasoning, judgment and other high-level thinking activities is in a state of rest, while the more primitive brain function is still continuing to activity, these dreams that are dominated by the more primitive 'original thinking rules' are presented, and the normal people's white dream, the symptoms of mental patients, mythological stories, etc., have many of the same places, all belong to the 'subconscious' field.

The subconscious mind uses the 'law of original thinking' to make up absurd dreams, because some 'thought' induces,

This allows the subconscious mind to use the 'law of primal thought' to make up absurd dreams. This 'thought' is what Freud called 'dream thinking,' or the 'hidden meaning' of dreams; The surface content of the dream is the 'manifest meaning' of the dream. The 'manifest meaning' of dreams is like that of hieroglyphics, but only if we can grasp the 'linguistic characteristics' (symbolic language) and the 'grammatical rules' (the 'law of original thinking') of this writing, we can understand the real 'dream thinking', which is not as absurd as dreams, in fact it is not absurd at all.

So how do we find reasonable 'dream thoughts' from absurd dreams? Freud pointed out that 'dreamthinking' is usually caused by some recent life experience (especially the day before dreaming), and this is one of Freud's dreams:

During the day, Miss N, who was helping Freud to do autopsy work, asked him to borrow the book 'Her' by Haggate. Freud lent it to her and said to her, 'This is a strange book, but it has a profound meaning.' Miss N asked him, 'Can I borrow your book The Interpretation of Dreams?' Freud said, 'I have not yet written my masterpiece.' Miss N asked again, 'When will you publish it and can we understand it?' Freud thought her words were sarcastic, as if she were carrying a message for someone. Freud did not respond at that time, but Miss N's words touched his heart: he was convinced that the Interpretation of Dreams, which was in progress, would be an immortal masterpiece, but publishing it would also have to pay a price, because he had analyzed a lot of self

Own dream, and have to disclose their own character and some privacy to the world.

This is a 'dream thought', that night in this 'dream thought' induced, he had a ridiculous dream. In the dream, he went back to his school days and followed Professor Bruger in the scene of anatomy and physiology research, the difference is that this time, not dissecting animals, but dissecting 'myself.' He cuts himself to pieces (including his internal organs), but he has 'no terrible feelings', and this 'emotional response' does not match the dream image, proving that this terrible scene is a 'symbol', which is not doing a real physical autopsy, but a 'mental autopsy'. The 'anatomy of the mind' is precisely the focus of the book The Interpretation of Dreams.

At this time, the physical stimulation 'inserted' in, because Freud stood too long that day, the legs had a feeling of fatigue, which made him notice the lower part of his body in the dream, after he 'had a pair of legs again', but still feel tired, and need to 'take a taxi' or by the guide 'carry him'.

The original dream thought was still going on, and several scenes related to the 'book' appeared in the dream: there were some pinched silver papers (Stanniol, Silo) in the pelvic cavity. Freud believed that this was an alteration of the word Stannius

Stannis had published a book on the neuroanatomy of fish, and Freund had admired him since childhood.

The two scenes in the dream of 'being carried over a muddy field' and 'crossing a pit with a wide plank' are from the book 'Her' that he lent Miss N, while 'the Indian' and 'the girl in the Log House' are from another book by the author, 'The Heart of the World.'

'Work, work, write immortal work', Freud's heart seems to be crying in this way, but before becoming 'immortal', the shadow of 'death' has floated in the heart (perhaps because the legs are acid, can not walk), the 'cabin' in the mountains is a symbol of 'coffin', because it is very like the tomb inside of the Eschucan people he saw when traveling in Italy. He is in the atmosphere of death, and wants to 'cross' out, and this seems to depend on his own 'immortal' work - 'the child will make this crossing possible' (if not, then it is left to the child to complete the unfinished ambition).

All dreams often have 'theme dream thinking' and 'small dream thinking', but the dream dominated by the 'original thinking rule' will make the connection between images and images give people the feeling of being irrelevant. In order to interpret dreams, it is necessary for the interpreter to connect these fragmented dreams. Take a look at two examples below:

A man had a dream in which his uncle smoked on Saturday. Then the man dreamed of a middle-aged woman holding the dreamer in her arms as if he were a child.

Some people dream that they are scolded by their father, and then go to the railway station, and the train just enters the station, but strangely, the train is still, and the platform is moving towards it.

After reading the above two dreams, we still seem to be confused, what is the meaning of dreams? The first dreamer said in free association that his uncle was a very religious man who had never smoked on the Sabbath and never would; The middle-aged woman reminded him of his mother, who held him in her arms like a child. The fact that these two things are 'strictly forbidden' and that they appear successively in the same dream may indicate that there is a logical relationship between them as follows: 'If my uncle smokes on the Sabbath, I might as well let my mother hug me.'

The second dream, in which the train does not move and moves from the platform towards it, seems absurd on the surface, but it says 'this is the opposite of the truth', and this content follows 'He is scolded by his father', indicating that the previous dream content is also the opposite, but because the idea of 'father is scolded by him' cannot escape the examination of consciousness, so a smoke is released in the dream.
